 Poltava Ukraine:

Poltava Ukraine is located on the Vorskla River in central Ukraine. By car Poltava is about 3 hours east of the capital Kiev and is on the major East-West road network the stretched to Kharkov and beyond. Poltava's estimated population was 298,652 in 2011. Poltava is Полтава in Ukrainian and in Russian. Most residents speak both Russian and Ukrainian. Ukrainian is the official language while most people dominantly speak Russian. 

Poltava has a wonderful central square with beautiful monuments of old cannons statues and the Tuscon column nestled in a cozy park. Poltava recently has undergone major reconstruction and renovation. Today most of Poltava is beautiful and clean. In the center of Poltava you will find historic cobblestone tree lined streets. You will also find many restaurants and cafes to welcome the newly arrived tourists. 

Poltava's big claim to fame is the historic battle between Charles XII of Sweden and Peter the Great 8 July 1709. Sweden was a major European power and was dominating Europe.  The decisive Russian victory at Poltava ended the Swedish military domination and was the major starting point of Russian dominance in Eastern Europe for hundreds of years. This victory is still part of the modern culture in Poltava and is frequently re-enacted and celebrated.
